A South African man lost both legs and suffered serious head injuries after a horrific racing crash in Cape town. Taufiq Carr, 26, was taken to the intensive care unit of Vincent Pallotti Hospital, in Pinelands
The crash happened in the early hours of Monday morning. Taufiq Carr was part of an underground racing club that participates in dangerous high speed races during weekends
From videos that have surfaced online, its believed that a passenger was inside Taufiq Carr’s BMW when it crashed. One video appears to have been taken from the passenger’s side of the car. It shows Taufiq racing alongside another white BMW
The video also shows that Taufiq Carr tried to overtake a motorist but his BMW M3 span out of control, narrowly missing the car and hitting a highway barrier.
Miraculously, the passenger was not hurt. “If there was a guy called Imraan in that car, he escaped that accident miraculously. I am sure he has used all his nine lives,” said JP Smith, a mayoral committee member for safety and security
From chat conversations that were shared on a Whatsapp group called “Racing Hookup”, Taufiq Carr was looking to buy new tyres in preparation for the race
